ANTONELLI RITA

Four Marche denominations, all with DOCG status, define Rita Antonelli's scope: a repertoire that demands time and a steady hand. At its heart is Vernaccia di Serrapetrona, a rare black grape that becomes both a sparkling wine and a red, an oenological curiosity even before it's a wine. Counterpointing it are the reds of Cònero, where Montepulciano and Sangiovese rest for two years before release, and the white wine register entrusted to Verdicchio in its Riserva version. Here, geography matters as much as the grape variety: the same Verdicchio speaks two different languages depending on whether it originates on the slopes of Matelica or in the amphitheater of the Castelli di Jesi, and in both cases, eighteen months of aging are needed to reveal its structure. None of the four labels seeks a shortcut: these are wines designed for patience, calibrated to the region's most demanding regulations. The result is a miniature map of Marche wine, read through a single winery that brings together its opposite poles, from crisp whites to meditative reds.
