Azienda Agricola Bertagna Gianfranco

In Cavriana, in the province of Mantua, Azienda Agricola Bertagna Gianfranco has been producing Lambrusco mantovano wines for four generations. The four denominations—two DOC and two IGT—outline a territory straddling the plains of Lambrusco Mantovano and the hills of Garda Colli Mantovani, with the Provincia di Mantova and Quistello indications covering the freer expressions. The ampelographic repertoire is traditional: Lambrusco Viadanese and Grappello Ruberti for the sparkling reds, Garganega and Trebbiano for the hillside whites. The Monte Volpe line takes its name from the fox-inhabited hill where the vineyard stands—a detail the company interprets as a sign of environmental integrity. Among reds, whites, rosés, and passiti, the range of styles is as broad as the variety of soils. Visitors to the winery can observe firsthand how enological discipline and modern techniques transform the local fruit, and taste the entire range where it originates, with the hill and the glass equally close.
