Azienda Agricola Carlo Hauner

Arriving in the Aeolian Islands in 1963 and settling in Salina a decade later, Carlo Hauner brought a perspective formed elsewhere to the vineyards: an internationally renowned painter and designer, he applied the same compositional discipline of his visual work to grapes. From him, the company inherited the ancestral practice of sun-drying—the trellises laid out in the morning and brought in at sunset—a daily ritual that concentrates the mineral and aromatic characteristics of the volcanic slopes in the grapes. The repertoire revolves around Malvasia delle Lipari DOC, expressed in three styles: a taut dry white, a concentrated passito, and a complex liquoroso. Alongside these, IGT Salina gathers the freer expressions of the island's vineyards, broadening the interpretation of the Aeolian terroir beyond just the symbolic grape variety. Each bottle remains anchored to the light and rock from which it originates. Visitors to Santa Marina Salina can see the trellises at work and taste the three styles directly where the grapes are dried.
