Barni
Brusnengo · Province of Biella · Piemonte
Barni operates from Brusnengo, in the Biella hills where the most demanding denominations of northern Piedmont are concentrated. The producer is dedicated to Gattinara and Ghemme, two DOCG wines that establish Nebbiolo as an indispensable base, complemented in precise proportions by Vespolina and Uva Rara. This is a territory that demands time and offers no shortcuts. These are not reds for immediate gratification: Gattinara requires at least thirty-five months of aging, Ghemme thirty-four, and this waiting period is an integral part of their character. The result is structured wines, with a minerality forged by patience and a discipline that follows the terroir more than fashion. The two labels portray Alto Piemonte in contrast to the Langhe—the same leading grape variety, but soils and altitudes that change its pace—and restore to Brusnengo its role as an outpost of tenacious viticulture, measured by the long maturation times in barrel rather than quick returns, where Nebbiolo bends to the rules of a harsh and mineral north.
