Castelli di Jesi Verdicchio Riserva DOCGCònero DOCGVerdicchio di Matelica Riserva DOCG+1

From Fano, on the Marche coast, Giancarlo Battestini manages a portfolio entirely focused on the region's highest rank: four denominations, all DOCG. The selection brings together contrasting styles, from reds to whites, from sparkling wines to those for long aging, without dispersing into an undifferentiated catalog. On the red wine front, the sparkling Vernaccia Nera di Serrapetrona, a rare example of red bubbles, coexists with the structured Cònero, which blends Montepulciano and Sangiovese. The white wine chapter, however, revolves around Verdicchio in its Riserva version: both the Matelica, with its taut and mineral profile, and the more expansive Castelli di Jesi require at least eighteen months of aging, which extends their depth. This is an oenology that chooses regional authenticity over fleeting trends, and which, in its four labels, interprets Marche as a mosaic of soils and grape varieties. Battestini does not pursue variety for variety's sake, but rather gathers under a single signature the denominations that best express the character of their territory.
