Benanti

In Viagrande, on the slopes of Etna, Benanti operates within a single denomination that, however, functions like a mosaic: the DOC Etna, where the volcano imprints a unique identity on each slope. The winery has adopted the Selezione Contrade as its interpretive method, expressing Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Mantellato according to the specific vocation of each parcel. Not a single wine, therefore, but as many voices as there are exposures and altitudes in this complex terroir. It is precisely this internal diversity that makes the denomination so interesting: the altitude and orientation of the rows shape both the white and red wines, and the volcano ends up telling different stories at each of its elevations. The winery is open to visitors, and a visit here has a precise meaning: tasting wines born from the same grape variety but from different contrade in sequence is the most direct way to understand how the mountain speaks distinct languages.
