Bernava

Bernava cultivates the calcareous slopes of Corno di Rosazzo, where northeastern Friuli blends towards the Slovenian border. The entire production falls under a single denomination, Friuli DOC, but within it, the range is broad: nine white grape varieties — from the austere Friulano to the aromatic Traminer — alongside reds and sparkling wines. Each label must reach at least 10% alcohol, a threshold that speaks to the continental ripening of this vineyard strip. Two local elements contribute to defining the winery's character: the minerality that the calcareous soils impart to the wines and the cool night temperature swings, which preserve aromas and acidity. The result is a range built more on tension and precision than on power, where even aromatic varieties remain restrained. Thus, a single set of regulations, but explored in all its directions: still white, red, and sparkling wines coexist as nuances of the same border landscape.
