Patata del Fucino IGP

On the flat lands of Avezzano, where the Fucino was once a lake before its drainage, Bianchi Antonello cultivates Patata del Fucino IGP. The ancient lakebed, of glacial and volcanic origin, offers this protected variety conditions difficult to replicate elsewhere: deep, loose soils that shape tubers of uniform shape, firm flesh, and intact skin. The denomination restricts production to nine municipalities and sets precise standards, which the producer respects to deliver consistent quality to regional and national markets. Fucino is a unique agronomic case—a basin reclaimed from water and converted into one of the most fertile horticultural plains in the Apennines—and the potato is its most emblematic fruit. Bianchi Antonello works within this framework, where product consistency depends less on the individual harvest than on the nature of the soil: a drained plateau that continues to behave like the fertile bottom of a vanished lake.
