Caccia al Piano
Castagneto Carducci · Province of Livorno · Toscana
In Castagneto Carducci, on the Livorno coast that made Bolgheri famous, Caccia al Piano works with two contiguous denominations: Bolgheri DOC and Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC. On one side, the fresh whites of Vermentino and Sauvignon; on the other, reds built on Cabernet Sauvignon, creating a range that brings together very different styles. The latter age for at least twenty-four months, the time necessary for the Cabernet's structure to find order and its tannins to soften. This production juxtaposes the immediate drinkability of coastal whites with the ambition of long-aging reds, two extremes that the same maritime terroir keeps coherent. The character of the place—saline, luminous, breezy—is found in both directions. The winery is open to visitors: it's worth a stop to taste the two souls of Bolgheri side by side and measure how distinct they are, despite originating from the same Tuscan coastal land.
