Patata del Fucino IGP

On the Fucino plateau, Davide Calvisi cultivates potatoes on soils reclaimed from the bed of a disappeared lake. The `Patata del Fucino IGP` that bears his name is harvested with the consistency and integrity that define the denomination—regular tubers with intact skins, a signature of land that once lay underwater. His work continues a local practice born from one of the country's most audacious agricultural reclamations. The single denomination he oversees thrives within a strictly delimited area, nine municipalities around Avezzano, where volcanic and glacial deposits create conditions that no other Italian plateau replicates. The potatoes bring that terroir to the surface: their density and resistance to impact distinguish them in the market and in the kitchen. Here, cultivation on the historic Fucino lakebed is not an invoked heritage but geography expressed with every harvest, and the single `IGP` becomes the most direct way to read a soil that owes its existence to the disappearance of the water that once covered it.
