In Cirò Marina, on the Ionian side of Calabria, Cantina Campana operates where Gaglioppo reigns supreme. The winery navigates between two contiguous denominations: the Cirò DOC, spread across four municipalities, and Melissa, which embraces fourteen. On this foundation, it crafts reds centered on Gaglioppo, the grape variety that has shaped the region's winemaking history, complemented by suitable Calabrian grape varieties, up to the Cirò rosso, superiore, and superiore riserva versions, which reach at least twelve percent alcohol. The two appellations do not merge but divide the territory into distinct registers, allowing the winery to interpret different nuances of the same landscape. The result is dry wines, built on the tannic character and frankness of the native grape variety, without yielding to international tastes.
