CANTINA SOCIALE DEI COLLI PESARESI SOC. COOP. AGRICOLA
Vallefoglia · Province of Pesaro e Urbino · Marche
On the border between Marche and Romagna, Cantina Sociale dei Colli Pesaresi brings together four denominations that span the entire regional range. There's the long-aged red, Cònero, based on Montepulciano, which matures for at least twenty-four months; there's the sparkling black grape rarity of Vernaccia di Serrapetrona; and there are two interpretations of Verdicchio in its riserva version, that of Matelica from the Apennine interior and that of Castelli di Jesi closer to the coast. Founded in 1969, the cooperative gathers about forty member growers who interpret an ancient viticultural heritage without succumbing to rhetoric. Their portfolio extends across the Pesaro hills and beyond, measuring the gradient that rises from the Adriatic towards Montefeltro: each denomination occupies a different step on this scale of altitudes and exposures. The result is a catalog that, rather than simply summing up labels, draws a scaled-down map of Marche's enological identity, from crisp whites to structured reds.
