Casa Ronsil

In Chiomonte, where the Susa Valley opens its alpine amphitheater, Casa Ronsil works with the area's sole denomination, Valsusa DOC. The vines are cultivated by hand, pruned with traditional shears, to preserve the freshness that the mountain terroir bestows. The core of their wines rests on a quartet of grape varieties—Avanà, Barbera, Dolcetto, and the native Becuet—which compose high-altitude reds that are subtle and vibrant, maintained at a minimum of eleven percent alcohol. This rare denomination, tied to hillside agriculture, reflects a precise ethic here: respect for the land and animals, minimal processing, and controlled yields. The result is a Valsusa that speaks the language of the high valley rather than that of the more generous valley floors. The winery is open to visitors: ascending to Chiomonte means seeing the terraces up close and understanding why a mountain wine chooses freshness and balance over power. It's worth a stop to taste the Becuet where it originates.
