Casale Mattia
Frascati · Province of Roma · Lazio
Casale Mattia was founded in the 1960s, when Attilio planted the first rows of vines on the slopes of Colle Mattia, near Frascati. Three generations later, Roberto and his wife Lucia have come full circle, taking the company from vineyard to bottle and focusing production on the Roma DOC denomination. The volcanic soils southeast of the capital are home to Montepulciano, Cesanese, and Sangiovese, grape varieties that thrive here thanks to the warmth and drainage of the Lazio soil. The Roma DOC denomination, young compared to Lazio's more famous names, is the framework within which the company is defining its voice. The winery is open for tastings and events: a visit on-site allows you to follow, among the rows and the barrel room, the journey from the hill to the glass, and to taste how these three reds express themselves on the same land.
