CASCINA LANA di Baldizzone Antonino

Nizza Monferrato · Province of Asti · Piemonte

Barbera d'Asti DOCGRuchè di Castagnole Monferrato DOCGTerre Alfieri DOCG

Rooted in the Nizza Monferrato area, Cascina Lana dates back to the 1930s, when Davide Baldizzone acquired the cellar and vineyards that his heirs would expand to the current twenty-three hectares. With Nino and Graziana, who took over in the 1970s, the winery narrowed its focus to quality and local grapes—Barbera, Dolcetto, Cortese, and Moscato dominate the twenty cultivated hectares. Harvesting is manual, dictated by ripeness, and the cellar practices skin contact, measured decantations, and rackings. From these practices emerge three DOCG wines from the Asti region: Barbera d'Asti, the red backbone of the area; the rare Ruchè di Castagnole Monferrato, aromatic and niche; and Terre Alfieri, a more recent denomination that intertwines the grape varieties of the hills around the Tanaro. A trio that encapsulates the breadth of the Monferrato vineyard, offering both structured reds and more unusual interpretations of the territory.
