Domenico Capello abandoned a decades-long career with Italy's railways to pursue winemaking after completing an Onav sommelier course in 1998. His eponymous azienda in Roatto—with additional parcels in Piovà Massaia and San Paolo Solbrito—now crafts Ruchè, Barbera d'Asti, and Terre Alfieri across the rolling hills south of Asti. Capello's production roots itself in indigenous varieties, granting expression to the region's historic terroir without reliance on borrowed prestige.
