Schiopetto

Mario Schiopetto arrived at winemaking through family stewardship, not inheritance. Born in 1930, he spent decades selecting wines for his family's osteria before committing to production in 1963. Four years later, his first varietal Tocai redefined Friuli's whites—a decisive moment that reshaped how Italy understood its own light wines. From Capriva del Friuli's Collio Goriziano zone, Schiopetto proved that single-variety expression from white-grape varieties could compete with established traditions elsewhere.
