The municipality of Erba, sharing its name with the Italian word for herbaceous plants that survive winter freezes to sprout anew from dormant roots, provides a unique climate for agriculture in the province of Como. Across this territory, 15 protected denominations overlap. Chief among these local specialties is Terre Lariane IGT, a wine produced within a restricted zone of 180 municipalities. This terroir also shapes the production of Salame Brianza DOP, a cured meat whose delicate curing process is tied to the moist air currents of this specific Lombardy pre-Alpine district.
