Agr. BERTOLINO DI BERTOLINO GIORGIO

In Costigliole d'Asti, among the hills of the Asti province, Giorgio Bertolino cultivates vineyards where three DOCG denominations — the highest level of the Italian pyramid, where origin is not only controlled but guaranteed — converge on the same Piedmontese territory. The core is Ruchè di Castagnole Monferrato, a single-varietal red confined to seven municipalities, which naturally reaches a minimum of 12.5% alcohol, gaining structure without force. Around this core, production expands in scale and style. Terre Alfieri covers an area of eleven municipalities and changes color: white Arneis on one side, red Nebbiolo on the other. Barbera d'Asti, on the other hand, draws from a much larger area — 165 municipalities — and undergoes aging for at least four months before bottling. Three denominations, therefore, that are not a mere list but a measure of how varied the subsoil of this hilly strip is: each label tells a different portion of the geological complexity upon which these vineyards rest.
