Agricola Hortoitalia OP Societa' Cooperativa

Agricola Hortoitalia OP is not a single farm but a coordinating entity: it manages members distributed across six regions, scheduling plantings according to agreed calendars to ensure a constant supply of fruit and vegetables throughout the year. From its Bologna headquarters, the cooperative interprets Italian geography as a map of vocations, placing each producer where climate and soil are most favorable, from the Tyrrhenian coast of Calabria to the terraces of Sicily. In this scheme, the Cipolla Rossa di Tropea Calabria IGP is the symbolic reference: this sweet red-bulbed onion finds the conditions that define its character in the twenty-three Calabrian municipalities of the denomination. It is harvested fresh as a young spring onion or left to mature for storage, two interpretations of the same vegetable that the cooperative manages with its characteristic attention to timing. Thus, a single protected denomination, but treated as a testbed for the ability to match territory and production planning on a national scale.
