Agricola Santa Barbara

San Pietro Vernotico · Province of Brindisi · Puglia

Brindisi DOCSquinzano DOC

In San Pietro Vernotico, in the Brindisi area, three generations of the Giorgiani family have guided Agricola Santa Barbara towards a more conscious, rather than muscular, Salento viticulture. Their repertoire begins with indigenous varieties — Negroamaro, Malvasia nera, and especially Susumaniello, a long-forgotten grape — alongside international varieties that find a robust and sunny expression in the Puglian soil. The winery's two certifications, DOC Brindisi and DOC Squinzano, cover two contiguous areas of northern Salento and demonstrate a vocation for varietal exploration rather than focusing on a single flagship label. The most significant chapter concerns Susumaniello: under the guidance of Pietro Giorgiani, president and oenologist, the company has reinstated its status through careful winemaking, restoring dignity and a role to a grape that the market had almost archived. It is a work of identity recovery, where the choice to focus on a heritage grape variety serves as a declaration of belonging to its territory even before it is an oenological strategy.
