Agricole Rizzello

In Cellino San Marco, on the Ionian arc of Salento, Agricole Rizzello works with two contiguous Denominazioni di Origine Controllata, Brindisi and Squinzano, both built upon the grape varieties that define this corner of Puglia. Negroamaro forms the backbone, flanked by Malvasia nera di Brindisi and Susumaniello, for red and rosé wines that convey the warm and saline character of the coast. The Brindisi DOC, spread across two municipalities of the Ionian arc, mandates at least 12% alcohol: a threshold these wines effortlessly surpass, supported by dark fruit and a mineral grip that keeps them far from generic softness. Together, the two denominations tell a story of southern viticulture that prioritizes intensity over smoothness, and which finds its most agile expression in rosés. The dialogue between Squinzano and Brindisi measures the continuity of a coherent Salento terroir, where both regulations share the same alphabet of indigenous grapes.
