Agriturismo La Chabranda
Pomaretto · Province of Torino · Piemonte
At the entrance to Val Germanasca, above Pomaretto, La Chabranda brings together two crafts often separated elsewhere: the vineyard and the table. Ruben tends the rows of Barbera, Bonarda, and Nebbiolo, the grape varieties permitted by the DOC Pinerolese, an alpine mountain appellation that yields red wines with a minimum alcohol content of 11.5% and thrives away from the spotlight of Piedmont's larger denominations. These are high-altitude wines, taut and direct, born from a challenging territory. Meanwhile, Lara presides over the kitchen, setting tables with homemade cheeses and local preserves, in a rhythm dictated by harvest cycles and the aging of milk into cheese. The project declares itself a working refuge rather than merely an accommodation facility: here, time obeys the seasons and agricultural labor, not the guests' calendar. It's a mountain model where wine is not an isolated product, but a piece of a family economy that unites vineyard, stable, and kitchen.
