Alpe del Garda was founded in 1980 by mountain farmers from Tremosine sul Garda, who chose to build a dairy to process the milk from local stables themselves. The cooperative relies exclusively on Italian Brown cows, raised in the nearby Val di Bondo, and maintains the entire supply chain in-house: from milking to transformation into Grana Padano DOP, without external steps. The result is a cooked, slow-maturing hard cheese, an expression of a production area that extends over a vast region of northern Italy but finds a distinctly mountain interpretation here, linked to the pastures and milk of a single breeding basin. The facility is open to visitors: those who ascend to Tremosine can tour the dairy and stop for a tasting, comparing the cheeses at different stages of aging and grasping the direct link between the altitude of these farms and the character of the cheese.
