In Monforte d'Alba, within the Langhe region, Amalia Cascina in Langa crafts four Piedmontese denominations, all DOCG, each originating from distinct terroirs. The Nebbiolo grape yields two pinnacle wines — Barolo, known for its long evolution and forty-year aging potential, and Barbaresco, with a leaner elegance and more restrained structure — while Dolcetto lends its name to two more immediately enjoyable expressions, Dolcetto di Diano d'Alba and Dogliani. The declared approach is one of minimal intervention: each wine reflects the character of its zone of origin rather than the winemaker's hand. Thus, Nebbiolo and Dolcetto arrive in the bottle bearing the distinct features of the terroir that generated them, and with an aging potential that rewards patience. The winery welcomes visitors: a stop in Monforte allows one to trace the thread connecting these four wines, from the immediate Dolcetto to the great, long-lasting Nebbiolo, and to understand how the same method transforms as it moves from one hillside to another.
