At Antichi Vinai, in Castiglione di Sicilia, the Gangemi family has been cultivating Nerello Mascalese for over 150 years on the volcanic slopes of Etna. Prolonged aging and increasingly measured dosages are the tools with which the company seeks the mineral purity of a terroir that changes with altitude and the lava nature of the soil. The sole denomination, Etna DOC, encompasses reds and whites united by a minimum alcohol content of 12.5% and the imprint of the rock's microclimate. Each harvest records the conditions of the basalt on which the grapes ripen, and the wine becomes its transcription. The cellar is open to visitors: here, the journey takes you directly through production, from old wooden barrels housed in volcanic stone to the final tasting.
