Aquilino Filomena

In Corigliano-Rossano, along the citrus belt that marks the Sibari plain, Aquilino Filomena cultivates Clementine di Calabria IGP, the seedless variety that the region's mild climate and mineral soils bring to a distinct sweetness. The denomination covers a very extensive southern area — over four hundred municipalities — but finds one of its prime territories in this part of Calabria. The company's work focuses on the seedless fruit, harvested when the balance between sugar and acidity reaches the point required by the production specifications. Each season reflects the conditions of a terroir where the cultivation of mandarin-clementine is knowledge accumulated over generations, rather than imported technique. It is a narrow specialization, foregoing a wide range to focus on a single product and know it intimately: the Calabrian clementine as an expression of a generous climate and a plain that citrus has shaped over time, season after season.
