Azienda Agricola Barbera S.S. Di Marilena Barbera & C.
Menfi · Province of Agrigento · Sicilia
In Menfi, on the southwestern side of Sicily, Marilena Barbera has resumed her family's viticultural tradition, adopting biodynamic agriculture as her working method within the Sicilia DOC zone. In the vineyard and cellar, she foregoes herbicides, synthetic fertilizers, and systemic treatments, entrusting the outcome to spontaneous fermentations and a minimally invasive enology, designed to bring the character of the Menfi terroir to the bottle without filters. The repertoire spans reds, rosés, and whites built on classic island grape varieties—Nero d'Avola, Frappato, Nerello Mascalese—alongside international varieties that the Sicilian climate ripens beautifully. The second denomination concerns the table: Sicilia IGP extra virgin olive oil, calibrated to retain over 100 mg/kg of total polyphenols and the green tomato vegetal notes that define its profile. Both wine and oil tell the same story of subtraction, where human intervention is minimized to let the place speak for itself. The estate welcomes visitors: a visit to Menfi allows one to follow the biodynamic method from vineyard to bottle and taste both productions side by side.
