Since 1319, the Benedictine community of Monte Oliveto Maggiore has cultivated vines among the Crete Senesi, intertwining the work in the vineyards with the monastic rhythm of prayer and manual labor. Seven centuries later, the abbey's cellar continues to produce wines from the DOC Grance Senesi—whites and reds centered on Sangiovese and other Tuscan grape varieties—on that same soil in Asciano, with a continuity that few other realities can claim.
