Pomodorino del Piennolo del Vesuvio DOP

On the volcanic slopes of Vesuvius, in Sant'Anastasia, Azienda Agricola Zeno Giuseppe cultivates Pomodorino del Piennolo del Vesuvio DOP: tiny, pointed fruits that don't reach twenty-five grams but concentrate sugars up to at least 6.5 Brix degrees. This gives them the unmistakable bittersweet character that defines the denomination and, by tradition, is prolonged over time thanks to cluster preservation by hanging — the 'piennolo' that gives the product its name. The farm is part of a restricted consortium, with thirty-nine members distributed across eighteen municipalities in the area, which alone represents three-quarters of the total certification. It is a fabric predominantly made up of family-run businesses, where farming knowledge passed down through generations meets a more professional management. Cultivating here means accepting the constraints of volcanic soil and limited yield, in exchange for a fruit that bears its origin written within it. Production currently does not include opening to visitors.
