AZIENDA VITIVINICOLA DI CARLO POLITO
Agropoli · Province of Salerno · Campania
On the southern coast of Campania, in Agropoli, Carlo Polito's winery cultivates about ten hectares where the volcanic soils of Cilento receive Mediterranean winds. Barbera and Aglianico grow organically, and their grapes feed a range of five denominations: the Castel San Lorenzo DOC and Cilento DOC, the Colli di Salerno IGT and Paestum IGT, in addition to the Cilento DOP. It is a geography that intertwines the broader names of the Salerno area with the more circumscribed ones of the coastal strip. The cellar, recently renovated and equipped with oak aging facilities, produces about 60,000 bottles per year. The approach is one that combines traditional winemaking with contemporary techniques, seeking the character of the territory rather than smoothness in each re-fermentation. The result tells the story of a corner of Campania where the proximity to the sea and the volcanic matrix of the soil remain legible in the glass, amidst structured reds and the brackish freshness typical of this stretch of coastline.
