Toscano IGT

In Castelnuovo Berardenga, Badia d'Ombrone spans two municipalities in the Siena area, where Sangiovese, Trebbiano Toscano, and Canaiolo Nero grow among woods and rows of vines. The estate relies on a single denomination, the Toscano IGT (Indicazione Geografica Tipica), and offers it in white, rosé, and red versions. It is the freest designation in the regional panorama: less restrictive than guaranteed denominations, it allows for a range of styles that here starts with a minimum alcohol content of 11.0%. On this basis, the estate builds a complete range, capable of covering all three colors without pursuing the hierarchy of stricter regulations. Around it, the landscape dictates the conditions: spontaneous vegetation delimits the vineyards and reveals the different levels of the Tuscan terroir, including altitudes, exposures, and soils that vary from one slope to another. Toscano IGT thus becomes the register in which this portion of Sienese Chianti expresses itself with greater versatility, outside the constraints of higher classifications.
