BAINO LORENZO

Barbera d'Asti DOCGRuchè di Castagnole Monferrato DOCGTerre Alfieri DOCG

Lorenzo Baino distributes his work across three Piedmontese denominations, each with a distinct character. The Ruchè di Castagnole Monferrato captures the intense fragrance of a rare grape variety, cultivated in the seven municipalities to which the area is restricted. Barbera d'Asti, aged for at least four months, brings the structure and acidic backbone that sustain the portfolio, while Terre Alfieri showcases two opposing faces—the white-berried Arneis and the red-berried Nebbiolo—across an area of eleven municipalities. This is a range that rejects specialization on a single register, choosing instead to traverse Monferrato and the Asti Langhe in all their variety, from aromatic white to age-worthy red. Holding together a niche grape like Ruchè, the widespread appeal of Barbera, and the dual soul of Terre Alfieri requires different approaches in the vineyard and cellar. The winery is not currently open for visits, but its three labels are enough to convey the breadth of eastern Piedmontese winemaking.
