Barbalonga
Rovato · Province of Brescia · Lombardia
On the slopes of Monte Orfano, where centuries-old scrubland has given way to vineyards, Barbalonga has pursued a slowly matured project since 1988: the first harvest arrived only in 2011, after years of anticipation and meticulous hand-selection of grapes. The company commits to a single denomination, Franciacorta DOCG, but within that perimeter, it explores with curiosity, crafting various cuvées of sparkling and rosé wines. The style is classic for the area: Chardonnay, Pinot nero, and Pinot bianco rest for at least eighteen months, the time needed for the bubbles to acquire their characteristic measure and depth. New vineyards planted over the years expand the palette and allow for different interpretations of the same terroir, while the soil of Rovato, at the foot of the mountain, imprints a recognizable rootedness on each version. The result is a Franciacorta that tells the story of a precise place in Lombardy's wine country, rather than merely a catalog of styles.
