Barbanera Srl
Cetona · Province of Siena · Toscana
From its base in Cetona, in the Sienese hills, Barbanera Srl looks south and cultivates two facets of the same island. Sicilia IGP refers to extra virgin olive oil, rigorously regulated—acidity not exceeding 0.5%, at least 100 mg/kg of total polyphenols—and recognizable by that green tomato note that defines its character. Sicilia DOC, on the other hand, is about wine, built on the island's rich repertoire of black-skinned grapes: Nero d'Avola, Frappato, Nerello Mascalese, and others, for reds, rosés, and whites that do not fall below 12% alcohol. This creates a unique profile, that of a bridge-producer connecting two distant regions through the discipline of protected denominations. Both denominations share the same standard of regulatory rigor, which here becomes the true link between oil and wine. The geographical center of gravity is Tuscan, but the raw materials and product identity remain firmly Sicilian: a dual origin that, rather than a contradiction, becomes the distinctive trait of the house.
