Melannurca Campana IGP

In the orchards of Teano, in the Caserta area, Giuseppe Barretta cultivates the Annurca and Rossa del Sud varieties, which form the basis of Melannurca Campana IGP. This apple has an unmistakable character: red skin and white, crisp flesh, the result of traditional cultivation maintained in the region and defended here as a method rather than a commercial appeal. Each harvest reflects the local conditions: the volcanic soils and temperate climate that characterize this corner of Campania, distinguishing the fruit from undifferentiated production in other areas. The IGP focuses on five municipalities, a restricted perimeter that Barretta interprets as a guarantee of identity rather than a limitation. His work remains within a single denomination, but he defends it in detail—variety, color, consistency, origin—delivering an apple whose value lies entirely in the correspondence between its origin and the fruit itself. A product rooted in a handful of municipalities that asserts its distinction from market anonymity.
