Basile operates in the Montecucco DOCG area, seven Tuscan municipalities where Sangiovese forms the backbone of the red wines. From vineyards around Cinigiano, in the province of Grosseto, the producer crafts wines that reach at least 13% alcohol through a long maturation: the reds spend a minimum of seventeen months aging, a period during which the grape variety gains complexity and sheds the harshness of youth. The resulting character is that of a hillside Sangiovese, taut and structured, complemented by the additional Tuscan grape varieties permitted by the denomination and calibrated to its most stringent requirements.
