From Monforte d'Alba, in the Cuneo area, Massimo Benevelli's winery oversees four guaranteed denominations, distributed among the two cardinal grape varieties of the Langhe. Nebbiolo reaches its peak in Barolo and Barbaresco: the former aged for at least thirty-eight months, the time needed to compose the tannic structure this denomination requires, the latter defining a more immediate version of the same austere grape. Alongside these two great reds, the range includes Dolcetto di Diano d'Alba and Dogliani, two complementary interpretations of Piemonte's most versatile grape, capable of producing ready-to-drink wines with solid character. Navigating between pure Nebbiolo and Dolcetto means managing very different timings, soils, and exposures, and Benevelli makes this the hallmark of his work: each denomination retains its own distinct character instead of flattening into a single style. The result is a coherent picture of the Langhe territory, where the same hand can transition from the longevity of Barolo to the frankness of Dolcetto without confusing their two vocations.
