BENINCASA

Benincasa holds a special place in the modern history of Sagrantino: it was the first winery registered in the registry of this Umbrian variety, and from Bevagna, where it has been based since 1964, it cultivates vineyards on the sunny hills of the five municipalities of Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG. The grape demands time and receives it: the reds and passiti mature for at least 37 months, the necessary period for tannins and structure to find balance in wines that easily exceed 13% alcohol. The winery focuses on a single denomination, but around it, the estate also cultivates other products. From regional cultivars, it produces an extra virgin olive oil harvested and pressed on the same day, a practice that minimizes the time between plant and mill to preserve freshness and finesse. It is the mark of a winery that interprets its entire territory, from the great aging red to the new oil, without losing the character of a hill that finds its most recognizable voice in Sagrantino.
