Bernard
Three white denominations from Veneto define Bernard's scope, stretching from the shores of Lake Garda to the volcanic soils further east. In Custoza, a district of nine municipalities, the winery works with Bianca Fernanda, Garganega, and Trebbiano Toscano in still and Riserva versions, aiming for a white that remains anchored to the lake's freshness. A little further on, on the steep slopes of Soave, Garganega and its accompanying grape varieties change character: here, the volcano dictates minerality and tension. From this same Garganega, two opposite and complementary outcomes emerge — the taut dryness of the Superiore and the concentrated sweetness of the passito, the Recioto, which ideally completes the range. Each denomination requires a different touch, and Bernard navigates them all as if they were chapters of a single terroir story. Those who wish to experience this can stop at the winery: tasting a Custoza, a Soave Superiore, and a Recioto in succession is the most direct way to understand how the white hillside Veneto changes.
