Patata del Fucino IGP

In Luco dei Marsi, in the Fucino basin, Claudio Bianchi cultivates lands reclaimed from an ancient lake: deep, mineral-rich soils, inherited from a drained seabed, where potatoes find ideal conditions. His Patata del Fucino IGP originates from this terroir, confined to nine municipalities in the province of L'Aquila, where the connection to a particular soil gives the tuber its identity. The resulting tubers have compact and firm flesh, intact skin, and a consistent shape, a product of both the soil and regulated cultivation conditions. It is the hallmark of a denomination that owes as much to the geography of Fucino as to the hand of those who work it: the mineral richness of the land and the control of agronomic practices give the crop the consistency that the market recognizes. Here, quality is measured by the regularity of the product rather than any declaration, and each harvest confirms the physiognomy of this internal Abruzzese plateau.
