Bianchi Mario Antonio

On the Fucino plateau, in the territory of Luco dei Marsi in the province of L'Aquila, Mario Antonio Bianchi cultivates land born from the reclamation of the ancient lake that once covered the basin. It is here that the Patata del Fucino IGP takes shape, a denomination recognized across nine municipalities, linked to volcanic soil and a high-altitude climate that define its character. The tubers express the distinctive qualities of this environment: compact flesh, regular shape, and a skin that holds up well during both harvesting and storage. These very characteristics set the plateau's production apart from that of the plains widespread throughout the rest of Italy, where different pedoclimatic conditions yield less homogeneous results. Bianchi's work is inscribed in this particular agricultural history, that of a plain reclaimed from water and converted into one of the most distinctive horticultural areas of inland Abruzzo, where the potato remains the symbolic product.
