In Agliano Terme, a hillside village in the Asti region, Bianco Angelo e Figlio oversees three DOCG denominations distributed across different territories of Piedmont. This geographical breadth reflects a choice not to concentrate on a single terroir but to traverse several, each with its own demands. The common thread remains red wine, expressed through grape varieties ranging from common to rare. The Ruchè di Castagnole Monferrato relies on the eponymous grape, rarely found elsewhere; the Barbera d'Asti centers on the regional emblematic grape, aged for at least four months; while the Terre Alfieri also ventures into white, spanning Arneis and Nebbiolo. Simultaneously working with these calcareous micro-environments of Monferrato requires a mastery that cannot be improvised, because each denomination imposes its own timings, grapes, and yields. The producer's skill lies precisely in holding together, without flattening them, three enological grammars that the regulations rigorously keep separate.
