From La Morra, in the Cuneo area, Borgogno Giovanni Battista embraces four guaranteed denominations across the entire spectrum of Piedmontese reds. Nebbiolo defines the two major expressions: Barolo, which requires thirty-eight months of aging and a minimum of 13% alcohol, and Barbaresco, twenty-six months and 12.5%. The former extends across eleven municipalities, a testament to the complexity of that denomination. On the other side, Dolcetto, in its two expressions of Diano d'Alba and Dogliani, offers a more immediate fruitiness and lower alcohol content, a ready counterpoint to the austerity of Nebbiolo. The range thus covers the two fundamental registers of the area, from wines of long anticipation to those for more immediate drinking. It's a catalog read by typology rather than by label, rooted in the main red areas of the Langhe and faithful to a geography that changes face from hill to hill, where each denomination responds to its own aging time and character.
