Bosco alle Vigne

From Castagneto Carducci, on the Livorno coast, Bosco alle Vigne operates within the Bolgheri system and its strict specifications, crafting structured reds and elegantly cut whites. The winery navigates between two contiguous but distinct denominations. Bolgheri DOC is the domain of Bordeaux blends — Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc — where the great reds find their counterpoint in whites made from Vermentino and Sauvignon. Alongside it is the more demanding Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC, the only Italian denomination built around a single historic estate, where red wines must undergo 24 months of aging before release and reach at least 12% alcohol. These are two different degrees of rigor, but they share the same proving ground: the soil of this coastal strip, where the character of the place is as important as the grape variety. Each bottle thus becomes a measure of how Bolgheri can be both codified and singular, balancing long cellar times with a terroir that allows no shortcuts.
