Calvisi Gianluca

In Avezzano, on the Fucino Plain, Gianluca Calvisi cultivates Patata del Fucino IGP in one of Italy's most fertile areas. The reclamation of the old lake basin has endowed agriculture with a volcanic and mineral soil which, combined with the enclosed climate of the mountain basin, imparts a marked compactness and consistent texture to the tuber. The production specifications don't just focus on the flesh: they demand regular sizing and intact skin, requirements that make selection as much a part of the craft as cultivation. Calvisi recognizes the product's dual debt—to the intrinsic qualities of the soil and to the care of those who work it—and in respecting the denomination, he finds a way to defend both. The choice to concentrate on a single protected origin is not a limitation but a form of specialization: all his experience converges on a vegetable that encapsulates the hydraulic history of Fucino, a land reclaimed from water and, season after season, transformed into one of Abruzzo's most productive fields.
