Cantina Cellaro Soc. Coop. Agr.
Sambuca di Sicilia · Province of Agrigento · Sicilia
In southwestern Sicily, where the Mediterranean scrubland overlooks Lake Arancio, Cantina Cellaro is a cooperative that unites two denominations. The first is Sicilia DOC wine: from Nero d'Avola, Frappato, and other native and international grapes, they produce whites, rosés, and reds with a minimum alcohol content of 12 degrees, offering a broad portrait of an island that continuously changes its register in the glass. The structure brings together many suppliers under a common set of regulations. The second signature is oil: the Sicilia IGP extra virgin olive oil respects a maximum acidity of 0.5% and a total polyphenol concentration of 100 mg/kg, with that note of green tomato that betrays the freshness of the raw material. Wine and oil are not two separate worlds but two expressions of the same agricultural landscape. The winery is open to the public: tours allow visitors to explore the production areas and taste both denominations side by side, grasping the connection between the vine and the olive tree that defines this corner of Agrigento.
