Cantina Famiglia Aimar

In Barge, a village in the Cuneo area overlooking the Alpine foothills, Cantina Famiglia Aimar interprets a single denomination, Pinerolese DOC, spread across thirty-four municipalities on the border between the plain and the first mountain slopes. The production regulations allow for blends that intertwine Barbera, Bonarda, Nebbiolo, and Chatus with other regional grape varieties, a wide range that reflects the ampelographic diversity of western Piedmont. Aimar translates this heritage into three complementary styles: a red, a rosé, and a Barbera vinified as a single varietal, all with a minimum alcohol content of 11.5%. These are wines of measured substance, which interpret the hillside soils without forcing their character, prioritizing clarity and definition over volume. The choice to work with less common indigenous varieties, Chatus above all, places the winery within a peasant viticulture that resists homogenization, where the denomination matters less than the agricultural gesture that precedes it. The result is an honest portrait of an Alpine strip often overlooked by Piedmont's wine maps.
