Cantina Giacco Soc. Coop. Agr.
Salaparuta · Province of Trapani · Sicilia
Established in 1977 by Stillone Nunzio, Cantina Giacco is rooted in Contrada Giacco in Salaparuta, where the initial idea was to vinify and market the region's prized grapes. Today, the cooperative gathers grapes from five municipalities in western Sicily—Salaparuta, Poggioreale, Gibellina, Contessa Entellina, and Santa Margherita Belice—and channels them into two regional denominations, Sicilia DOC and Sicilia IGP, which together encompass white, red, and rosé wines crafted from indigenous grape varieties like Nero d'Avola and Nerello Mascalese. The labels—Vigna del Principe, Villa Amalia, Neklite—function more as a memory of the vineyards and the people who work them, rather than mere brands. The dual status, DOC and IGP, gives the cooperative scope to interpret each vintage with different expressions. The winery welcomes visitors for tastings: stopping here means glimpsing the protected origins of this corner of Sicily and following the journey of the grapes from the five municipalities all the way to the glass.
