Cantina Madonna delle Grazie

In Venosa, on the mineral soils of Monte Vulture, Cantina Madonna delle Grazie works with a single denomination, Aglianico del Vulture Superiore DOCG. The family legacy dates back to the early 20th century, but it is since 2003 that the winery has bottled under its own label, from vines rooted between 400 and 550 meters above sea level in the municipalities of the area. The winery stands next to the 16th-century monastery that gives it its name, and from there the family cultivates old Aglianico parcels with attention to the terroir of the now-extinct volcano. It is a single denomination interpreted vertically, where altitude, volcanic soil, and old vines contribute to a red of character. Those who wish to verify this in person can stop for a tasting: it is the most direct way to recognize, in the glass, the mineral imprint that Vulture imparts to its Aglianico, and to gauge how much the altitude of the vineyards influences the wine's final profile.
